Breites Bündnis von Gruppen ruft zu Verhinderung des Missbrauchs von Kindern als Soldaten auf

(Pressemitteilung:) Am Samstag, dem 24. April 2010, findet der erste GuluWalk in Berlin statt.

Aufgerufen wird zu einem Gang vom Olivaer Platz zum Breitscheidplatz. Dort findet eine Kundgebung statt. Der Marsch durch die Stadt will Aufmerksamkeit auf die Not der Kinder in Uganda und weltweit lenken, die als Soldaten missbraucht werden. Über 250.000 Kinder werden in Armeen ihrer Kindheit beraubt. Für sie und für diejenigen, die nach Hause zurückkehren können -- traumatisiert und ohne Bildung -- müssen wir jetzt etwas tun.

Six months after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the DR Congo is facing enormous challenges: Several opposition parties repudiate the election results, human rights are violated on a large scale by security forces and illegal rebel movements alike, the humanitarian situation is still alarming and the government has hardly been able to improve most development indicators.

Trauer um Menschenrechtsaktivistin, Historikerin und Autorin von 'Kein Zeuge darf überleben'

Die Menschenrechtsaktivistin Alison Des Forges starb am Montag, 12. Februar 2009, bei einem Flugzeugabsturz in Clarence, einem Vorort ihrer Heimatstadt Buffalo. Sie wurde 66 Jahre alt.
Des Forges studierte Geschichte in Cambridge und Yale und erwarb 1972 einen Doktortitel mit einer Arbeit zur Geschichte Ruandas ('Defeat is the Only Bad News: Rwanda under Musiinga, 1896-1931').
