The Summer Academy of the Galtung-Institut for Peace Theory and Peace (G-ISA 2017) will take place from 7 to 13 August 2017 (7 days) in Grenzach-Wyhlen located only 10 minutes away from the city centre of Basel in Switzerland. The Galtung-Institut is located in the tri-country region between Germany, Switzerland and France. The course will be conducted by Prof. Johan Galtung (Professor & Founder of Academic Peace Studies and President of the G-I), Prof. Kees van der Veer (Psychologist and Director of the Cultural Studies Foundation in Amsterdam) and Prof.

The Inclusive Peace and Transition Initiative (IPTI) was created in July 2015, with the goal of supporting peace and transition processes through the comparative evidence accumulated over nearly a decade of research under leadership of Thania Pfaffenholz, at the Graduate Institute in Geneva.
The three months CAS-Research Program consists of participation in the 22 days Summer Academy, preparation of a research paper (Maximum 5 pages) and visiting the relevant 4-5 Swiss Institutes in different Kantons) till 14 May, 2016. The main goal of the 3 Month CAS-Research Program is to develop the participant’s knowledge, improve the research skills and closely acquaintance with Swiss Organisations.
Conflict has a profound impact on gender relations. How do protection initiatives contribute towards the exclusion of women? How do military institutions construct and codify hegemonic masculinity? Despite the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women from 1979 and the UN Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, it is evident that peacebuilding does not always foster gender equality.

(c) Monday, August 31st: Culture: The Clash of Civilizations and: Actionable Solutions.
