The Making of Peace, Conflict and Security

Call for Panel Proposals for 6th Bi-annual meeting of the Peace and Conflict Studies in Anthropology (PACSA). Closing date: 15 January 2017

Conflict and peace-making have fundamentally shaped and remade boundaries and relationships in the world we live in. These transformations include processes of inclusion and exclusion that accompany conflicts and the efforts to resolve, transform or secure them. Inclusion is commonly associated with peace rather than conflict, but violent means are often justified in inclusive or productive terms: the renewal of a unified people, the protection of a national economy, or the toppling of an old regime to make way for a more inclusive future.

On Collective Violence. Actions, Roles, Perceptions

Reminder: Call for Papers by Centre for Conflict Studies, Marburg (Germany)
In recent years and since the micro turn within conflict studies, research on individuals within violent conflict has been increasing. Here perpetrators, bystanders and victims, rescuers, witnesses, mediators, peacekeepers and so forth have been the analytical categories applied to the plethora of actors who can be found in societies experiencing violent conflict. These concepts are mutually constituent of each other, with a victim only being one as such because of the acts of perpetration against it.
