Horn of Africa Programme Director, Aden Abdi, was invited to provide technical support and witness the signing of an historic peace deal between the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) and the Government of Ethiopia. Conciliation Resources has been supporting this process for the past six years.

Peace Stories - to mark the International Peace Day

EPLO published a series of peace stories of their member organisations

On the occasion of the 37th International Day of Peace on Friday 21 September, the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office EPLO published a series of peace stories by their member organisations about their peacebuilding activities in countries such as Somalia, Columbia or Libanon.

They also released a set of videos of the directors of three of their member organisations talking about their involvement in peacebuilding.

BICC Expert Appointed to UN Panel of Experts on Yemen

Amongst them is Wolf-Christian Paes, who until his appointment was Head of Advisory Services at BICC. He is the expert on arms.

Continuing the upward trend that began in the early 2000s, the volume of international transfers of major weapons in 2013-17 was 10 per cent higher than in 2008-12, according to new data on arms transfers published today by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Space lies at the heart of peace and conflict studies. War zones, border disputes, fights over land and territory, out of area missions, inter or intra-state conflict, besieged cities, peace gardens and war memorials, and many other expressions make reference to spatial markers. This points to the fact that the conduct of violence and the maintenance of peace always has a spatial element to it, it would not exist without space. In other words, peace and conflict ‘take place’; their practices are situated in space.
